Time
Written May 28, 2004

Time is a God.

When you desperately need more Time, it gleefully scampers away with minutes and hours trailing raggedly behind like some sort of temporal tail. If you take the Time to focus on them, these same minutes and hours instantly grow roots and become a monolithic, immovable force.

Time is constantly dancing within reach. Time is constantly just beyond your grasp.

More Time is the best birthday present that you could give to anyone, anywhere. Gift wrapping it might prove difficult, however.

You will never see Time progress – rather, you will be distracted by the clever decoy of the seconds hand methodically plodding through its circumferal course around the edges of the disc. While your eyes are distracted by this ruse, Time is slyly slipping through the cracks and escaping around the periphery of your vision. All we ever see is the static terror of temporarily imprisoned Time.

Time is the only thing that ultimately separates life from death.

Time is a VCR with rewind and fast forward buttons that we don’t know how to use. Even pause doesn’t work very well.

Paradoxically, Time is Timeless.

Time doesn’t like when we refer to it as “just another dimension.” Just look what happened to Einstein. Stephen Hawking is next.

While Time can be used as a shield to fade and blunt the harsh blows of the world, it can just as easily be turned into a weapon to bring suffering closer than you ever thought possible.

Time is a Frankenstein monster that we created out of innocent necessity, which then rose up to enslave us with watchband manacles.

Time is a Demon.

Uh... right.
