Meegan and her hair!
So for about oh i dont know, a year all i have heard from M.J. on a regualr basis is what she wants to do with her hair, cut it, buy a brush, or get dreads again. Well it was only starting to become annoying when yesderday she does someting drastic!....
Well let me first tell you about Jack, the person who M.J. let cut her hair. Now he as gone to school for hairdressing, hes not gay, or well thats what he says(we really have no idea, other then that fact he does have a date for tonight, a girl!). How can i discribe him other then saying that when he was 5 years old he caught his grandparents doing it doggie style, and shoved a beer bottle up his ass last night!(prorbobly a storie to come). Dont get me wrong but he is a really nice guy and well he cut M.J.'s hair.
Ok back to the hair, well after much thought M.J. went up to Jack and said, "do something, I dont want it long anymore and I want to keep it shaggy!" And so Jack went to work. I only ended up seeing the finished product and well I was supprised and impressed the work t hat had been done. M.J. you look hot, its a good look for our new adventures on the East coast.
And now I dont have to hear you bitching about your hair anymore!!!

The Ocean Beach Road tour
Also know as the day Pixie and M.J. decided they weren't any good at guided/bus tours!!
So Pixie and I finally caved and signed up to go on a guided tour. Everyone had been telling us we "Had to drive the Great Ocean Road". Well seeing as we didn't have a car we thought why not let someone else drive us. So we met the bus at 11am to begin our guided adventure.
So there was a long highway.... and beaches... alot of beaches... beaches there were impressive for the first 1, 2, 3 hours... but.... Can anyone say annoyingly redundant?
We saw our first Koala in the wild....
The tour guide spent the entire day being Ignorant and ripping into every race and culture there was out there... So Pixie and I spent most of the trip quiety mocking him.. and well everyone else on the bus for that matter.... Oh what bitter betty's we are ("bitter betty's"? who the fuck says that?)
I don't even want to discuss dinner.. (Hey Pixie how was the sausage on white bread?)
But we must admit, at the end of the day we ended up at this place where the waves come roaring in through a gap in huge cliffs. At the base there were caves and one in particular Jen and I explored....
And then there were the 12 appostles... well actually there were only 9, a few had fallen into the Ocean. Both Pixie and I noticed a penis trend... We were suppose to watch the sunset at this point, but seeing as it rained all day.. there really was no sun to set.
Apon our return we discovered that our code for the door did not work. They had changed it during the day, but seeing as we were gone all day.... Boo
NOw I don't want to sound too overly bitter. We saw some realy cool stuff... But we seem to do better on our own, besides the locals are always WAY more interesting than the tourists!!!

Last Day in Hobart
As the day came to an end for us in Hobart we spent some time sitting on a pourch with a coule of cones and a rum and coke...
At this point we packed up our stuff...as we seem to explode wherever we go. And Stew(the person's house we crashed at...Kates housemate)who was giving us a lift to the airport found out that we had an extra 30min befor we needed to leave. and he also found out we had not been to Salamanca market. So we hurryed to the market for a beer on the grass. Ok so the market, picture a street accross for the ocean packed with bars, pubs and little shops. in front there is a laun where everyone just sits hangs out and drinks. It is not illigal to wonder with drinks, awosme!
So we finish up a beer in record time and get droped off at the Hobart Airport. Meegan has some problems with security, stuppid shoes with metal bars in them!
We make it to Melbourne and hopped in a cab to take us to the hostle that we dont have an address for. We get to the main street in town and decide to get out of the cab since he has no idea what is going on and well we dont want to pay him for wandering around the city. So we get out of the cab and this guy pulls over and askes if we were looking for a hoslte...long story why but the point is we got in and he drove us around Melbourne trying to find our hostle it was like having our own personal tour guide.
Other then that we checked intot he hoslte...at the bar cuz reseption was closed and headed for our room that we couldt get into because you have to do an magic trick inorder for the key to work. We HATE stupid keys!

Compliance
A frantic email from Meegan (well, not really frantic but it's such a good word):
Chris dude
People can't get from our page to your page to see the pics from the airport (you can connect from your web page, but all our friends go directly to our link)... So can you just throw the pics on our page as well? please please?!?! I love you this much {-------@--------} plus 4.75!!!!
Really, how can one say no to love in decimal format?
Click for airport pix!

Meegan's mom adorns her with rainbow-like decorations to appease the fickle Gods of Aerospace Travel.

Jen looks like a hunchback. Just sayin'.

Meegan and sister Sarah share a touching farewell against a sepia background.

Aaaaand they're on their way. I wonder if they'll make it to Australia okay???

Last days in Cygnet!
Well we decided the second last day of work at about around 11am we didnt want to see anymore freakin apples so we quit and walked back to the hostle. I had a shower(much needed) only to break the shower head holder thing and had to hold the shower head over myself to get any water(witch was cold!).....
So back at the hostle we were offerd some beer and learned how to play risk. And we played almost all night, and Daren just kicked our ass all night.
The next day we decided to drink(because we didnt want to drink the night befor...we remember the traveling hungover is not good). so we got up had breakfast got a lift into town and bought some rum and coke. Started drinking at 11am while playing risk untill meegan and I took over the world and killed Daren(that was our mission, take out green).
We drank untill Olga(Austrailian girl) picked us up and we went to the bottle shop to get more beer...drank in Hobart for a couple of hours befor we went to the bar, then headed to the bar
(with the lesbian locals...soo much fun) and drank and played pool untill we got kicked out. So that was our 14hour drinking binge after fruit picking! Oh man Meegan i think we are starting to drink too much...well mabe not yet!

So what did you do for Christmas?!?!
I bet not what we did!!!!
So on Christmas eve, the hostel we are staying at had a Christmas dinner (because they were having a big BBQ on Christmas). So we joined everyone there for Turkey, veggies, gravy, you know the usual (but no cranberrys...very sad!!). As things started to clear up we started chatting with a few of the people there (this was still Pixie and my first day there). OUr Hostel happens to sit ontop of a bar (that is owned by the hostel)... So a few of us decided to head down stairs for some drinks, pool, and the live band! After rocking out for awhile there (and pixie having a guy basically offer to be her sugar daddy...no jokes...apparently we all need someone with no strings attatched who can buy you things... his words not mine!!), so we decided to move on to another venue. So Pixie and I grabbed a cab with a dude (Chris) from the Hostel to his buddies. There we partook in a cone before heading to the Casino.
Now I don't think either Pixie or I have properly explained the drinking here. It is NOT govenment owned and controled. So Liquor/beer stores are called Bottle shops, and they are privatley owned. So they are open as long as the owner wants. Some are open 24hours.... (we were at one last night, but that is another story). And the bars are able to serve as long as they want...So some of those don't really close either..Now back to the Casino..
So we arrived and we headed upstairs towards the clubs (thats right, Pixie and Meegz in a dance club). Side story, I was wearing a hat and you aren't allowed to for security reasons...Soooo, of course I made the head bouncer style my hair because he was making me take my hat off... Made sense to me ;-)
So after starting in this crazy arcade bar (where Pixie dominated at this racing game) we moved onto some dancing, well hours of dancing....
Followed by the perfect conclusion of a few more cones (basically any joint is called that here, kinda annoying, but it catching)...and finally the arrival back at the Hostel at 8:30am.....
We managed to get a couple hours of sleep in before getting up at noon for the BBQ..... Good food, but the exhaustion from the night before kicked our not-so-spring-chicken-ass's and we were back in bed by 5pm!! Man now that was a Christmas unlike any I have had to date....
So Pixie and I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and make sure you give'er on New Years (Pixie and I are debating going to a rave with a local guy.. the price is our concern.. is the craziest night of partying in Australia yet worth the price tag of $50... don't know yet...stay tuned!!)

A night on the town in Cygnet....
Town... maybe that is to grand of a term.... Anywho... lots to drink so I'm not saying anymore!
So it was starting as another low key kinda night at the backpackers outside of Cygnet.... That was until one of the boyz made an enquiry into wether or not Pixie and I wanted to go the bar in town that night... Well as of yet we had been avoiding it, so why not?!?!!!
We arrived on the scene of the first bar around 9:30pm, 2 Canadian girls, 2 English guys, 1 German guy and our one tolken Aussie guy... (There never seem to be many actual Aussies around....)
So, at they played a game of pool and we each had some drinks... Hearing music from the bar downstairs we decided for a change of location... Oh man, I don't think I could ever explain this band... Here's how I am going to do it, if the trailor park boys were looking for a band... this would be it, RIGHT ON THE NAIL!!!
We managed to make it through a few songs before the bail, checked out another 2 bars and ended up back at the original one for some more pool and such.... This was the night Pixie and I decided we needed to learn to play pool and have been practicing ever since, lets just say we didn't represent Canada well in our skillz that night.
So before the end Jen and I managed to break some glass, I got my first Ausstralian marriage proposal... umm ya sketchy.... And then in two shifts we got a ride home in Cygnets one cab..yes ONE cab!! Basically the only advice we got about drinking in Cygnet was..leave before the fights start... and they weren't lying.... oh Cygnet, you had so much character, and thank god you seem to keep all those special "characters" there!!!

First pick-up!!
Now we realize that this is really not that big of a deal...what am I talking about..OF COURSE IT IS!!!! BWahahahaha
So Pixie and I actually bought our first Australian marijuana.... not that we weren't smoking before, but you know it is nice to have your own..... Bad news.. or not!! it is more expensive here, but quality!! So the offcial date of pick-up... Dec.20/04!!!!
Alright I'm done now!!!

THE BBQ!
After a couple of days of the apple thinning we met "the Austrailian girls". Wicked chicks. We were invided to a bbq down at Egg's and Bacon Bay. Yes this was the name of the bay in Cygnet!
This bbq was held at a trailer about back of a locals home. We almost stayed there as it was going to be cheep rent, but it was sketchy to say the least...kinda p-store like with a twist if you will. The owner of the place, Bret we meet as he had a huge spider(his pet) crawling on his shirt. Yah so not the norm if you will but we did alright. So it was a long night of drinking and eating an atlantic samon that was caught right out of the ocean that day...fantastic! Anyway about half way threw the bbq Meegan and I looked around and all of a sudden took note of the people around us. We happend to be surrounded by all grils (this never happens) and once we relized that we also took note that most of them were lesbian. It was an interesting relization but it was good times and we proceded to party and about a week later partyed again with the girls in Hobart....story to be another entry!

The first glances at Cygnet
We were cut off half way through our conversation with the lady that would be setting us up with our job and place to stay... So that meant we knew where to catch the first bus, and at what time... but after that it was all up in the air. Being hung over as all hell and travelling along winding back roads in a bus didn't help add to the mood, neither did the lack of sleep and general uncertainty about what was going on.
But we got there, found Jane (the lady that owns the hostel) and were soundly asleep in our new home for the next two weeks by 8pm.
We awoke at 6am the next morning (as we did every morning, so as to be ready to start apple thinning at 7am).
This is Meegan's analysis of the job the first few days (be sure to check out the analysis of the job a few days later, and notice the drastic change)
-You wake up at 6am
-So you are generally asleep for the first few hours of thinning
- you work as long as you want with as many breaks as you want (we were being paid $2 a tree at this point, so it was up to you how productive you were)
-lunch break at 1pm.... we started the trend of smoking up on the lunch hour with on of the older workers (which we were invited in to join by our supervisor)
-pick stoned in the warm sun for a few more hour
-and finish up at 4:20pm.... no jokes, that is the actual time... coincident , I think not!!!)
I loved it!!!
It never really agreed with Pixie, but it didn't take me long to agree....
But that is another story!!!

Living it up in Hobart!
Well we spent 3 sketchy days in hobart...at the central backpackers...
the only story that is good to tell about it involves...waterproof cards, a bar, and two irish guys.
We started out in the hostel and asked if anyone was interested in playing some card games.(ya boring, but what else is one to do, and well meegan didnt want to get beaten at crazy 8's anymore). So a few irish boy and an american and us canadian girls started to play, after learning Shithead(good game...and we did convince on of them to introduce themselfs to an entire room of people he didnt know as "shithead" as a consequence for losing the game). we moved on to Traped after that, this is a drinking game that managed to land the canadians and the irish in a bar accross the street that surves $1.50 drinks and this horrible game. We showed up at nine and left at 3:30am...when they stoped serving drinks, ofcourse. After being at the bar for about 1 hour we were known as the Canadian grils who wanted some weed. We made it our mission to find some so that we could smoke...we were drinking afterall!. Eventually our mission was succesful and we had managed to befriend about 3/4 of the bar. Locals are soo nice.
and the adventure ends with us getting up after 4 hours of sleep checking out of the hostel and sleeping in a park for an afternoon while we waited for our 5:30 bus to get out of town. This is an entirely different adventure...stay tuned for our adventures in that C place on the front of the bus. We found out later to be Cygnet!

Mysteries from "down under"
Here are a few of the new things we have encountered, the weird the wonderful and the...well we just don't get...
Blue lighting in the bathrooms on the ferries and at Mainly beach.... why?!?! Can anyone shed some light on this?
Veggiemite, smelt it, got NO FURTHER
Kangaroo...tasety, sorta a chicken/cow cross
Hot towels on the plain... still don't know (we know this isn't just Austrlian but whatever)
Eggs are not kept in the fridges, not even in the grocery store.
The accent, many cases of having NO CLUE what the fuck is being said
EVERYONE has a cellphone, big, small, WAY worse than Canada
thats it for now..stay posted, it can only get weirder

...and on to Hobart
Well we said good-bye to Sydney and have moved on to Hobart.... for a day and a half.
Sydney was, well basically an Australian Toronto... If it weren't for the excellent company (provided by my friend Sarah from Orillia) we probably would not have made it as long as we did (5 days). We managed to make it to Mainly beach one afternoon, and the weather never got back up to the wonderful 44 degrees we saw when we first got there, so that was wonderful.
Last night we flew (1.5 hours) to Hobart, and today we decided it was time to start our fruit picking adventures. We catch a bus tomorrow evening to head for the farm. We plan on being there around 2 weeks, give or take... From there...not positive, but we will keep you all updated.

Ok well most of you may know about the Diva Cup/Keeper and if not look it up on the internet, i dont really have time to explaine. But as I prommised to some I would keep a bit of an update on to how it is working out(Jannell this is for you).
So I have tryed it out and it really wasnt bad at all. I had no problems getting it in and no problems getting it out(just remember to follow the directions and you will be fine, clenching is key!)Althought it was not the most comfortable thing in the world, I am hoping that after some time it will be fine.
If anyone has anything to add to this that would be fantastic, as i am no expert.

first post in Australia
Meegan and Jen are finally "doing" Australia......
Alright folks, we are here, we are alive, sleep deprived, and sweating like a maniac (It is currently 30 something degrees...it is suppose to get up to 39..).
So our first stop in Vancouver was basically idiot proof, people everywhere flagging us in the right direction, thank god!
Then on the Honalulu... we didn't actually leave the airport (boo),but we saw like two palm trees. We took a picture and eventually it will be on the site.
We were fed a million times, to the point where we turned meals down. Air Canada impressed us, except for the eggs.... *shudder*
Jen and I experienced hot towels for the first time... and still don't kow what to do with them.... (although we tried mulitple ways).
So the longest part of the trip was the 11 hours from Honalulu to Sydney... All I have to say is sleeping pills, what a great idea.
So we made it safely to Sydney, through customs, got our visa's... next step, find my friend Sarah.
Well the train system here is a little more complicated than in Toronto, but after many many conversations with some VERY friendly locals, we finally got it together. (One little girl approached us as we waited for our train to inquire, "Have you been around the world?", very cute!)
Well we are at Sarah's (hence the update), a really nice "flat" as they call appartments here. We even made it to the mall and purchased a fan (so us Canadian kids don't melt away in our sleep).
So the plan for the rest of our time here is some much needed R&R for the rest of today. Tomorrow we hit the beach.... Then we hope to be on our way south (maybe), by friday (which is thursday for you guys in Canada).
So there we have it, contrarey to all you nay sayers, we made it. Boo-yay
Luv
Pixie and Meegz
